I will be running through 2019 advocating for Sara Woods (20) and Scott Heller (30) in their fights against Clear Cell Sarcoma.
My goal is to run at least 6 half marathons along with at least 2 obstacle (mud) races. My first race is February 9th - The 2019 Hilton Head Half Marathon; the second is March 30th - The Craft Beer Half Marathon in Charlotte (and I'll keep you posted on future events).
I am fortunate. At age 47 I am in the best shape of my life! I can run farther and faster than at any point in my life. I am stronger and have more endurance than I ever had as a kid or younger adult. Now it's time to use those abilities for others in need. Sara and Scott are two young people whose stories touch me deeply in very different ways. I've known Sara her entire life. I've watched her grow from a precocious toddler to a talented, amazing young lady - as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. I only recently met Scott because of his tie to Sara with the same Clear Cell Sarcoma as she. His love for his family, his friends and his favorite sports teams remind me of myself at his age. This young man's verve for life, and his strength to give every pulse in his body to work towards a cure truly inspires me.
So I'm going to run; because I can, because their strength gives me the strength to do so. I hope that you will join me in the Shape Up with Sara's Cure campaign. Let's support this research funding and make a difference for these young patients. Help us cure Clear-Cell Sarcoma for those impacted by this rare disease.
Thank you for your support, whether it be a one-time donation or on a per-race basis. We can and we will find a cure!
